Today I started thinking about where do I want to take this blog.

I know, it is labeled as “a journey through the online money-making land”, and indeed, I was sticking to the subject throughout my posts. But, who wants to read a personal diary of a make-money-online blogger anymore? There are so many of that kind out there that a certain antagonism could already be spotted among certain readers.

<strike>I am a dreamer.</strike> And, I do have <strike>a dream</strike> plans of monetizing this blog. Moreover, I have plans of doing it in the near future, for as stated in my first post and the ‘about’ page, my bank manager is not going to be a happy camper in a few months.

Monetizing demands sufficient readership, which is attained with time, and with good content. No point of slapping on your AdSense and your affiliate banners everywhere when there isn’t anyone to be interested, right?

You have to have your readers going home with something. I plan on trying to achieve this with my every article. During the last couple of days I was writing fairly usable advice articles, and I have to tell you, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I enjoyed introducing readers to potential problems and offering ways of solution, or ways to avoid the problems altogether. And, I enjoyed even more the fact that I got positive feedback from readers. Should I start an advice column?

So, I’m going get myself a cup of tea, listen to a favorite tune, and try to figure out what am I doing first thing tomorrow with my blog.

So you’ve been published on Blog Engage. What’s next? The worst thing to do is nothing. Moreover, if you haven’t done anything yet, it is probably too late. You have to prepare in advance.

Being published on Blog Engage, or anywhere else for that matter, will bring your blog a spike of traffic during the following days. But, as your article is pushed down by others, the traffic will subside. That is why it will remain only a spike, unless you do whatever is possible to retain those new readers, make them YOUR readers, make them come back or make them subscribe to your RSS feed.

Converting A reader into being YOUR reader is not an easy task, but here are a few things that can be done to make it a little bit easier:

Make a good first impression. Have your published article revised. It is a good idea to ask a friend for a favor. If this is not possible, take a brake from your writing for an hour or two. Your mind and your eyes will get some rest and the things needing amendment will jump right out off the page for you. Spelling, grammar, logic, flow, those are the factors that would affect readers’ experience when reading your article.

Give you reader value for their time. Make it worthwhile for the reader to read all of your article, provide him with relevant and useful information that will make him feel that he didn’t waste time on just another bland article about something he already knows. If the article is about something he already knows, provide your personal opinion and/or show it in a different light.

Make the published article a VIP article. See that this article is not cluttered with Google AdSense or distracting ads, such as animated gif images or flash animations.

Link to related articles. In the end of your article, link to related articles that will make the reader bookmark or subscribe to your site to read them later. This reader is obviously interested in the subject, but there is a high probability he didn’t plan to spend more time than needed to read through the current article.

Reply to comments. Make sure that you reply to every comment you receive on your article. The reader is human, and we love to interact with each other. If you provoke a discussion he would probably come back to comment on your reply. In the article, ask people to comment, ask for their opinion and provoke discussion.

I am sure that quite a few other ideas will pop into your minds as you read this article. I would love you to leave a comment with your ideas. In return, I will edit your ideas into the article and make a reference to your site.

Use this as a pointer and inspiration, and good luck.
