So, following my fist part about Affiliate Marketing Secrets, where I discussed my approach to internet marketing and the customers, I’ve actually did some more thinking and came to a conclusion that there is no secret.
A lot of the things are not secrets at all, and are available if you know what to look for. Knowing what to look for comes with experience, or if you have someone point you in the right direction.
It’s like when I was starting out over a year ago. I was thrown from one way to make money online to another. I was so thrilled by the fact that there are so many way to make money online, at first, that I was pretty much sure that I was going to be stinkin’ rich in two months. Three months at best.
I’m not stinkin’ rich and many months have passed since. What went wrong?
Most of the ways to make money online are simple. But there’s a big difference between the simplicity of the method and the ease of making it work for you.
The major obstacle that rises in front of a beginner when he realizes that he’s going to have to pay for stuff. Most think that everything is free on the internet, and those who pay for services are suckers.
Well, most beginners are ok with paying for hosting (which would also give them a free domain name). But that’s where it ends… They would try to get everything for free and are going to spend 6 months threading water. Most will quit not too long after.
Let’s take mailing lists for example. The simplest of schemes.
You get people to opt in to your list by offering them something in return, that had to do with a certain niche. That way you will have a list of people who are interested in a particular subject.
The next step would be to take suitable CPA offers and gently pitch them to your list, while trying to establish a strong relationship with the subscribers.
Simple? YES! Easy? NO!
First of all, enter our major obstacle; a beginner would probably not sign up with Aweber, or any other autoresponder service in the first place because there’s a monthly fee involved.
“What’s the point of singing up and paying monthly fee if I’m just starting out?”
Sounds familiar? How about:
“I can’t justify the cost of the autoresponder because I’m not yet making money…”
Duh!
Drum roll please… The secret of part 2 is:
A beginner would not have a plan. He would typically go on and try a new technique every once in a short while. Is that because of the lack of a plan or the other way around? Who cares…
You have to have a plan. You have to know what you are going to do today, tomorrow, next week, next month.
You better sit down and write:
- I want to reach 2,000 subscribers on my mailing-list in the red widgets niche within the next mont. I will do that by doing a, b, c, etc…
- I will make profit by mailing to that list the following offers: a,b,c etc…
- The expense is going to be X, but the potential profit is going to be Y.
Now ask yourself a question:
Am I prepared to take a risk and enter this venture?
You see, this is a beginning of an online business in affiliate marketing.
Having a detailed plan will show you how to start making money today, even before you spent a penny.

oh darn and here i was thinking that you would finally spill the real secret to affiliate marketing ROFL, me rushing over, thinking i´d find the pot of gold ….
the difficulty for many beginners is actually making the plan because they don´t know enough to be able to make that plan! and no matter how many people will them them to write down their plan, they won´t be able to list the things they need to do in order to get X accomplished for real. It is all trial and error, finding the whole in the market by chance, sticking with a program that really works or finding a coach that does more than just make themselves rich.
Yea, no pots of gold here… Maybe in part 3
And you are right. Most beginners wouldn’t know what to do next.
I’m sorry for those seeing coaching and mentoring plans offered to them, practically for nothing, not taking the opportunity.
Unfortunately many are convinced that the internet is full of scammers that are pitching them no-good ebooks… And the ones that think that they could get everything for free, as I was saying in the post.
truthfully i was that beginner when i first started out, always wanting things for free, to have things fall in my lap and to think that i can get rich quick just by trying to pitch sales and ads. wrooonnngggg!!!!
i know now that you have to have an autoresponder! AWEBER, you have to have a mailing list OPT-IN “SQUEEZE PAGE” and you have to have patience and understanding
like Mirjam said, mostly trial and error until you find that particular style or technique that’ll work for you. and that takes PLANNING.
without a plan nothing will fall into place, it will just basically, fall. when you build anything at all, you’ll need a foundation.
awesome post as usual, Alex, cant wait to see what part 3 will be about.
by the way im purchasing OWM right now.

Yea I just saw that sale pop up.
Good luck on your new way! I would suggest giving this high priority right now, pushing aside everything else. This really works, just needs a kick start in the beginning to get things rolling.

Someone should make that into a plaque.

Exotic languages are extra…
:O Spanish is exotic? wow, never thought of it that way LOL:… how about you send me one in Dutch, I am sure you can´t call that exotic! ROFL
mirjam’s last blog post..Personal Challenge Study Case – First Day
Actually, not so long ago, I did two facebook ads, one in Dutch and one in Spanish…
It must have been a funny experience for the native speakers to read those. I used bits and pieces I found on the offer pages to form the ad
But, people were clicking, so I guess it wasn’t too bad…
We either have a plan that fails or we fail to plan.
lol
Some have a plan to fail without even knowing it…
I’ve gotten to the point that I refuse to give more than basic help to folks who refuse to get an autoresponder. It’s baffling to the extreme to me how people expect to run a business online without one.
Barbara Ling, Virtual Coach’s last blog post..What Profit Personality Are YOU?
Yea!! Great tactic to sift out the dreamers from the doers
As a coach you probably value your time and it must be disappointing to find out, after weeks of giving of your knowledge and expertise, that a person wouldn’t do the basic things in this field.
Thanks for contributing!
where’s part 3 alex?

Pheak Tol’s last blog post..Tips To Choosing An Affiliate Program
Yea, success!!
I’m beginning to hate twitter, btw.
Good stuff here, but I’m one of those people who hasn’t been convinced that having an autoresponder is going to help me do anything, and I’ve been in the game for a long time. I read Barbara’s comment above, and the truth is that I’ve never read anything by anyone that says why I need to have one, only that I should have one. I’m sorry, but if I just believed in stuff “just because” I’d also believe in some deity and the boogeyman just because everyone says I should without thinking about it.
I don’t have a problem with spending money, but let’s be fair here. Many people end up buying a lot of stuff and then feel scammed because it didn’t work, or feel overwhelmed because they don’t have the time to read it all. I’ve never liked anyone else telling me how to spend my money without reason; just not my style.
Still, I love your overall premise; it’s all simple, but definitely not easy. Maybe I’ll buy one of those plaques from you, after I know Dennis has bought one first.

Those plaques are getting more popular by the minute.
I should contact clickbank…
Great seeing you finally drop by and comment, Mitch. What was it that tipped you over the edge, the balloon?
Actually, autoresponders make lots of sense. I’m surprised to hear that everyone say to get one without explaining why… maybe I should make a post about it, if that is the case.
As to everyone’s spending money on stuff and then then doing nothing. Yea, a big problem there. I was relating to this in a post following to this one, “why 90% fail…”
Come by more often, Mitch!
Truthfully Alex, I didn’t know about this blog, I’m embarrassed to say. I saw the link to it on someone’s blog, I’m not sure who’s, and had to stop by. I’ve now added it to my reader, so I won’t be missing any more of it.
And yes, write that post, because, as I said, I just don’t get it. As a preference, I write two newsletters, and one of them has lots of subscribers, but I just send all my newsletters out on my own, and when people subscribe, I add them to the list, and I’ve never used one. I’ve never made any money from my newsletter either, which is a reason why I’ve never felt that spending the money for one has been justified. That will give you something more to add to the equation.
As if you needed it.

All right then, I will make a post about autoresponders! muhahaha!
Therefore, I will not reply to anything in this thread for now. That will keep you intrigued…
It will take me a few days though. I’m a little busy with other projects.
Ok Mitch, you’ve got a post in response to your comment
I’m guest posting it at JohnChow.com:
