I like to cook, but this is too much…

I admit reading John Chow once in a while. Among loads of stuff you and I’d better stay away from there is sometimes a piece of something useful on his blog. Well, this is NOT such a case. This is all about another contest.

We’ve all seen them all, been there, done that. The blogger running the contest gets all the backlinks, while hardly ever giving anything back by himself, except to one or several lucky people, who are generally not you. And that’s not him doing the giving anyway, there are always the sponsors who also get the quite a bit of juice btw.

This time I decided that I would enter that contest by telling you guys all about it.

There’s Always a First Time for Everything

Getting to Where the Grass is Greener

There are times that you truly believe that it is going to be simple to get to where the grass is greener.

In my case it is usually a new feature that supposedly would take only 30 minutes to integrate, but after 2 hours I find out that I really don’t know PHP to that extent, and I’m stuck.

At this point I usually begin to get frustrated, but not as frustrated as this cow probably is. The feeling that somehow you’re being screwed in this whole story is still there though…

I stumbled upon those cows on this blog, but I just couldn’t help to use it in my context. This is too funny!

Sometimes It Just Boils Down to That

I thought that it would be over by now, but my nights are still sleepless. I missed St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, which has never happened (well, maybe when I was 12).

It is practically impossible to write in these conditions as my baby wakes up nearly every 10 minutes. I can’t believe she has the energy to run around during the following day after those nights without sleep. All I have time for is comment and email handling, with an occasional stumble on the go.

Anyway, keeping the tradition of posting a somewhat interesting video on my “bad days”, this is my pick for today.

It is an ad for Monster.co.uk, an online recruitment service. But, stripping the commercial content, the message it delivers is something I can relate to.

I’d fit in this ad perfectly a year ago. But, I’ve taken steps to achieve more since then. How about you?

These are rough times for us as we are not getting any sleep, and I am not getting any work done here.

So, since I have some tricks in my sleeve, and stashed some entertainment for the rainy day, here’s a cool marketing idea that might inspire you to think outside the box. If you haven’t already, you might also want to read my Best Example of Thinking Outside the Box post.

Another Great Marketing Idea

Today I want to share one of the best examples of thinking outside the box I’ve ever seen.

Who doesn’t love a pizza once in a while?

You eat it slice by slice…

You happily reach the end, when.. Oh Boy!! WTF?!

But, when the initial shock dissipates,

…it appears to be a advertisement for a local exterminator.

[I'm giving you a minute to soak that in... Please feel free to run through the sequence again]

Now, I know it doesn’t come through as very appropriate, especially keeping in mind that the pizza-eating experience has been ruined. But, please admit it.
It’s genius.

• Think about what would pop into his mind when he will have an insect problem?
• Think about the number of stories that would be told by that “unfortunate” customer to his friends and relatives.

Use this as an inspiration for your own marketing efforts.
Consider everything, dismiss nothing.

Best Example of Thinking Outside the Box

Today my daughter had to stay home because of a fever, and guess who had to stay with her? It didn’t take much of a battle with M (the wife) to see who it will be. She simply used her veto rights, and my day was predetermined.

Keeping company to a 1y/o toddler is no easy task. Mental stability and nerves of steel are required. It is fun, but at the end of the day, all you want to do is stare at your tv with your cup of tea, or beer, or whatever your poison is.

Having a baby changes you in a way most people do not understand until they are parents themselves.
This series of 28 schematics is funny to the average visitor, but it is hilarious to a parent. What is even more funnier is that we actually do several of the “bad” things. Want to guess which ones?
