I felt like I was painting M&M’s by hand

Painting m&m's by handIf you follow by posts you probably know that I started redesigning my header on February 17th. (Read more in my 3 Answers From a Good Header article). Today, although not quite finished, my header is starting to look a bit better.

I must tell you, I’m finding the whole process very frustrating. Although I’m ok with basic graphic design, my programming skills are really out of date. It really isn’t that hard either, I can see the basic logic behind CSS, but I felt like an ignorant because I’m not familiar with the syntax. Searching for the right wording, etc., really felt like I was doing lots of unnecessary work that could have been somehow avoided.

That’s why, instead of writing an article, I spent 5 hours yesterday evening trying to make the Featured Articles container stay in its place. My God! And eventually I found myself going to sleep at 2:30am with no result.
Only in the morning it took me another hour to get it done, based on the knowledge gained during the long evening, and some epiphanies that came to me during waking up.

Rationale

So, what I did here is basically add a Featured Articles container to the header, so new visitors could overview selected articles that are not presented on the first page, and hence would have been otherwise ignored by the busy blogger, that would not browse through you archives unless looking for something specific.

As discussed earlier, my main goal is to get my header attention grabbing enough to make the fleeing StumbleUpon’er or his Entrecard using buddy notice anything interesting enough to bookmark or subscribe.

Good luck to me!
